It provides the scientific basis for energy policy decision making. CEEP will contribute to addressing the challenges confronting China's energy strategy and policy by pursuing the following research areas:

  • Energy and Economy
  • Energy Efficiency and Conservation
  • Energy Market
  • Energy, Environment and Health
  • Energy Security

CEEP has so far completed more than thirty important research projects, including key projects from the Ministry of Science and Technology of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China and tasks from national departments. CEEP has also finished many policy advisory reports, and the reports about carbon emissions and energy conservation have received much attention from national leaders. In the fields of energy, environment, economics and management science, CEEP has published more than 30 peer-reviewed articles in top journals, such as  Energy Policy, Energy Economics, Ecological Economics, Environmental Impact Assessment Review, Environmental Modelling & Software, and nine books, including "China Energy Report (2006): Strategy and Policy Research", "Technical Policy Research on the Upstream Industry of Chinese Petroleum" and "Theory and Application of sustainable development management in China".

CEEP has also explored CEEPA (China Energy & Environmental Policy Analysis Model) to perform thorough and elaborate analysis of related energy /environmental policy adjustments or reforms, the CEDAS model (China Energy Demand Analysis System) designed for mid- and long-term scenario analysis of energy requirements and CO2 emissions, and the OPFor system (Oil Price Forecast) for oil price prediction including long term and short term.
