Work Package 2

Work Package 2: Future Energy Technology Perspectives

The project team held productive progress meetings in Beijing in May 2008. Key development since then include a review of China’s historic energy service demand which is presently under way, with particular reference to selected end-use sectors.

In parallel, the UK partners have undertaken a short study to review data and energy modelling approaches in OECD countries to help inform the approach taken in the present study. Work has also begun on developing the energy demand and main points sources of CO2 in Jilin province with preliminary results expected shortly.

The focus for the next few months will be to complete the initial phases of the project, the energy service demand review and technology assessment, and begin work on the main focus of the project, the energy systems analysis modelling for China including the role of CCS.

Results from the energy service demand and technology assessments are due in late October 2008.
